FishCart 3.1 Feature Overview

This highlights the improvements made in 3.1. The development team is proud of what we have done, and we think you will enjoy the changes. This is only a partial list, as many other small things have been fixed, made more reliable, or enhanced in some way.

• FishNet is releasing a community supported version of its Java based FishCart Installer program. This can make it faster and easier to install FishCart, especially if only FTP access (no command line) access is available on the hosting server.

• The most important changes to FishCart itself are that register_globals and magic_quotes are no longer required. This alone makes FishCart much easier and more secure to install in a default PHP configuration.

• Oracle and MSSQL databases are supported, expanding FishCart's application base even further.

• The FishCart front page, and the product display page in particular, are much different. Categories, subcategories, and products are shown in a nicely nested format, making it much easier to browse a large catalog. Thumbnail pictures are now shown until the user chooses to see the full display of a product. For an example of how this works, see the Ouray Toys site.

• An order preview panel is shown at the bottom of the left navigation bar in the front page and product display pages.

• All public FishCart pages are now controlled by a single CSS file. With the use of a style sheet it is much easier to control fonts and certain colors in one place.

• A new country table system has been added to control the countries available in a particular catalog (zone). The countries selected and the order in which they are shown is controlled entirely within the maintenance pages.

• An inventory update ability has been added in the maintenance area. A tab delimited file with the SKU and its current inventory quantity can be uploaded and processed to set the inventory level for each product specified. This can be a helpful feature for merchants that wish to tightly control inventory and not oversell stock.

• There are new database fields for the front page welcome text, copyright information in the page footer, and a terms and conditions page that optionally must be accepted before the order can be completed.

• Product options and the product setup price now can be set with sale dates and prices. With these additions, a particular product option can be put on sale, or can have a setup price. Setup prices can be put on sale also.

• Front page promotion categories can now be assigned for each language in the language profile maintenance area.

• A few bugs were fixed in product options to work more reliably across all configurations. Also, access to the product option and related product tables is managed more tightly, making FishCart more efficient.

• Subzone and categories can now be assigned a sequence number to determine their display order.

• Subzones can now be nested to make complicated taxable locations much easier to navigate by the buyer.

• Added online credit card clearing through Payment Clearing, through the URL http://secure.paymentclearing.com/.
